Protect your children with parental controls in Windows 10




Microsoft has developed many security tools in the Windows 10 operating system, such as: Windows Defender, which contains full security features, and some useful tools to keep the system running more efficiently.

In addition to the feature (Windows Security) that provides easy access to tools that help parents manage the digital life of their children.


How to access family options in Windows 10:

1-Press the (Windows + Q) keys on the keyboard to bring up the search box.
2-Type: Windows Security.
3-Click Windows Security.
4-Choose Family Options on the control panel.


There are two items in this section of the Safety Center, one of which takes you to (Family Settings) and the other to the list of devices currently registered in the family plan.



How to add new family members:

1-Click on "View family settings".
2-Log in to the Microsoft website.
3-Click on the "Add a family member" option, or choose "Create a family group", if the group does not exist.
4-Choose Add member (for kids) or Organizer (for adults).
5-Enter an email or mobile phone number for a Microsoft account, if you don't have one, create one before proceeding.


Once accepted, you should be able to see member and organizer accounts in the family dashboard.



How to place restrictions for family members:

Once you add the child’s account to the Family Safety Center, you will be able to set different settings and restrictions, but first you must select the child account that you want to apply restrictions to, and then you can activate the following restrictions:



1- Screen time:

You have two options when it comes to the Screen time feature, where you can set specific hours only for children during the day to use their devices, or set the maximum time for each device, thus they can be allowed to use devices for longer periods on weekends, and to do so follow the steps next:

Click Screen time. Here you can enable one schedule for all devices, or turn device tables individually on, and also turn them off.
Activate the times during each day that you will allow the child to use his equipment.
Select (Add), then click on Save.



2- Websites:

If you do not want the child to access every website when connected to the Internet, you can enable the option to block websites, by following these steps:

Click Web browsing.
Choose "Block inappropriate websites".
Microsoft will activate a default option to block adult content and activate Safe Search on most popular search engines.
You can also choose (see websites in the allowed list only) and enter the websites of your choice in the list.


3-Restricting access to applications, games, and media:

To restrict access to games, applications and media, you can enable the age-based rating level feature, through the following steps:

Click on the App and game limits.
Select the app or game you want to set a limit for.
Set an appropriate time limit.



4-Requests:

If the child has accessed an application and does not have the authority to download it but wants to download it, you can approve or reject it from the control panel. You only need to choose each child's account and agree to or reject the listed requests.
