Facebook launches payment service via WhatsApp in Brazil

Facebook announced the launch of a digital payment service for its WhatsApp users in Brazil, after its successful testing in India in the past two years.

The social media giant in Tadwina said: The service will enable users to send money safely, and make purchases from local companies without having to leave the chat.

With more than 10 million small and micro companies turning out to be the beacon of Brazilian societies, Facebook added, customers can now pay directly from WhatsApp, in addition to the previous ability to display products in store indexes.

The service can also be used to send money to loved ones as easily as sending messages. Because payments in WhatsApp use the Facebook Pay payment platform, the company intends in the future to enable users and companies to use the same card information through various Facebook applications.

Facebook took into account the new feature of privacy and security, by requiring users to enter a 6-digit PIN, or fingerprint, to complete the payment process.

She warned Facebook that sending money and making purchases through WhatsApp is free for ordinary users, but as for companies, Facebook will deduct the amount to complete the payments. The company added that it is looking to launch the feature for users around the world in the future.
