Facebook tests Face ID and Touch ID for Messenger app

Facebook is testing a new feature of the Messenger application that allows users to better protect their messages from prying eyes, so that when users activate the feature, users need to authenticate their identity using (Face ID) or (Touch ID) or passcode before they can view incoming mail, even if it is The phone is unlocked.

This feature depends on the security settings of the device, so opening the phone naturally is the way to open the Messenger app, and users can also set a specific period of time after leaving the application, so that the application after this period of time needs to be re-authenticated.

This feature brings the same experience that is already available for the WhatsApp application owned by Facebook, so that users can specify whether authentication is always required when the application is opened or after a period of time without using it, which can range from one minute to one hour.

The company is currently testing the new security feature among a small percentage of Messenger iOS users, although the feature may eventually be available on a larger scale, including Android devices.
