Fuchsia OS from Google arrives for Nest Hub devices

More first-generation Nest Hub owners are receiving the Fuchsia OS update from Google as it expands beyond the preview program.

In May, the company officially released Fuchsia OS, an attempt to develop a non-Linux operating system from scratch, which took years to prepare.

The first device to receive the new operating system was Google's 2018 smart display, the Nest Hub. Which is not to be confused with the second generation Nest Hub with sleep tracking that was released earlier this year.

This resulted in the Nest Hub permanently abandoning the current Cast OS-based Linux operating system without negatively impacting the user interface or experience.

Fuchsia OS was only offered at the time on a select few devices. that have been registered in the preview program available to all devices via the Google Home app.

Over time, the number of Nest Hubs running Fuchsia OS expanded. Google is watching for any upgrade issues.

Late last week, Google updated a support page to reflect that the Nest Hub had received a new firmware update for both the preview software and all other devices. The first generation of the Nest Hub is now receiving firmware version 1.52.260996.

The company has confirmed that this update includes an upgrade to Fuchsia OS. This means that all first-generation Nest Hub devices should be working within days via Fuchsia OS.

You can use the company's own instructions to check if your device has been upgraded. But this upgrade that goes relatively unnoticed by most people seems to be part of the goal.

There is not much difference between the Nest Hub running Cast OS and the one running Fuchsia OS. Beyond some performance improvements.

The ability to switch the primary operating system across a real-world device without major issues is a major achievement.

The preview program did its job, as an issue was discovered where a certain color blindness setting was incorrectly enabled by default for some.
